Most people think chiropractors help you when you have a sore back and to a point they are correct. However there is a wee saying that going to a chiropractor for back pain is like going to Starbucks and getting a black coffee, sure you can do it, it would probably even taste good but why would you just got there for that when there are so many more exciting things on the menu.
I’ve found to understand chiropractic you need to have a basic understanding of the body, which sadly unless you go out of your way to study anatomy people just don’t know. The body is powered by the brain we all know this, but what’s even more important than the brain (in my opinion) is the nervous system. Why? the nervous system acts as a highway that the messages from the brain travel down so your body can actually function. The brain and the nervous system are so important that they are the only organs is the body that are protected by bone, your skull and spine!
Which brings us to how chiropractic works. The spine is there to house and protect the nervous system but the movement of the spine also provided important information to the brain. When the joints of the spine stop moving the brain doesn’t get all the information it needs, which means that your are not functioning at your best. The best way I can describe it is that the radio is not quite tuned right, you can still hear the song but there is static in the background. Chiropractors are trained to assess which joints of the spine are not moving correctly and adjust them so they can function properly, allowing your brain and body to function properly.
And guess what that can help with back pain, but it can also help with headaches, digestives issues, stress levels, mood, immune function, restless babies, behaviour and the list goes on, this does not mean chiropractic treats and cures all of these issues but it helps body function and communicate how it should, allowing it to heal itself.
