Headaches can range from being crippling to just an annoying pain in the back ground of your day. No matter which end of the spectrum you are on headaches are defiantly not ‘normal’ and they can come on for a range of reasons.
In today’s news I am going to talk about Cervicogenic Headaches. Which put simply means that the pain in your head could be originating in your neck. Common pain patterns of cervicogenic headaches are –
• Pain on one side of the head or face – but may be both sides in some presentations.
• Non throbbing pain that would be classed as intermediate to severe. So on a 1 -10 scales I would say anything from a 4-9 level of pain.
Gets worse with movement of the head or the neck.
Pain may last for a few hours or could become more persistent.
So what can be done if you happen to suffer from this kind of pain, hopefully I can help.
Chiropractors are trained to analyse the spine for dysfunction and correct it. This means we see what parts of you neck and spine are not moving properly and restore proper movement to those parts of your neck. I also do muscle release which if it is a true referred pain will often reproduce the pain people feel as a headache and then we know we are on the right track. With the muscles and joints working how they are made too your body is allowed to function at its best which means hopefully in this case less headaches. The cool thing about chiropractic care helping with your headaches is we are getting to the cause, yes pain killers may help the symptom but they are not helping the true cause of the pain.
With the increased use of our phones, desk work or even just poor posture our necks are more stressed and have more strain on them than ever before. Kids are not immune to this sort of pain either.
So if this sounds like you or you know someone that is having a Panadol per day because they have a sore head then give me a call. I offer a free consult so we can have a chat and I can point out if there is anything chiropractic can help with before you commit to an appointment and care plan.
Like anything if the pain is persistent, getting worse or you have
been suffering for a long time please also seek medical advice as well.
